Now® Dairy Digest Complete was developed to aid the digestion of dairy products, preventing the onset of symptoms related to lactose intolerance. Its formula combines several digestive enzymes: lactases, proteases and lipases that specifically target the digestion of lactose, milk proteins and fat. This enzyme blend is produced through a controlled fermentation process of selected species of fungi - Aspergillus oryzae, Aspergillus niger and Rhizopus oryzae.

Lactase is an enzyme that hydrolyzes lactose and aids in its digestion. This enzyme helps transform lactose into monosaccharides, glucose and galactose, which are absorbed in the small intestine, enter the bloodstream and are used for energy production.

Clinical studies have shown that lactase supplementation can help prevent and reduce flatulence and symptoms associated with Irritable Bowel Syndrome.

Protease (also known as proteolytic enzyme) is an enzyme that helps digest different types of proteins, including those found in milk. When ingested, stomach and intestinal proteases break down milk proteins into small peptides or amino acids. Studies suggest that enzymes, especially proteases, improve the digestion of milk proteins, reduce the permeability of the intestinal wall and also appear to regulate the immune system. Thus, the risk of poorly digested proteins passing through the intestinal barrier into the bloodstream and of the immune system overreacting against them is greatly reduced, thus minimizing symptoms.

Lipase is a lipolytic enzyme produced by the controlled fermentation of Rhizopus oryzae. This enzyme's function is to break down fat (triglycerides) in food into smaller molecules (glycerol and free fatty acids), so that they can be absorbed by the intestine.
