Vitamin K2 (Menaquinone-4), the form present in this food supplement, is synthesized by beneficial bacteria in our gastrointestinal tract. Compared to vitamin K1, it has a higher bioavailability, being transported not only to the liver but also to extra-hepatic tissues such as bones and the circulatory system.
Vitamin K2 plays a crucial role in maintaining bone and cardiovascular health. Essential for activating proteins that regulate calcification in the body, K2 helps direct calcium to the bones and teeth, where it is needed, and prevents it from being deposited in arteries and other soft tissues, preventing arteriosclerosis. In addition to strengthening bone density and reducing the risk of fractures, vitamin K2 promotes arterial flexibility and improves cardiovascular function. Incorporating foods rich in vitamin K2, such as fermented cheeses, natto and egg yolks, or considering supplementation, can be beneficial to overall health.
