Calcium

Calcium for daily nutritional support

Viva Saudável's Calcium collection brings together calcium supplements in different forms and combinations, designed to complement specific nutritional routines. Here you will find options such as calcium, calcium, calcium citrate, calcium carbonate and formulas combined with vitamin D3, vitamin K2, magnesium or other relevant nutrients for an integrated approach.

Calcium is an essential mineral often associated with the normal maintenance of bones and teeth, as well as muscle function and important physiological processes. The choice of supplement should consider the form of calcium, the recommended dose, individual tolerance, the presence of complementary nutrients and suitability for each person's situation.

Before using calcium supplements, especially in cases of medication, pregnancy, breastfeeding, history of kidney stones, kidney disease, cardiovascular conditions or supplementation in children, it is advisable to seek advice from a healthcare professional.

How to choose a calcium supplement

Calcium contributes to the maintenance of normal bones and teeth, to normal muscle function, and to normal blood clotting. For most people, the majority comes from their diet, and supplements serve to fill the gaps.

1. The form

Calcium carbonatehas more calcium per gram and needs to be taken with a meal, as it requires acidity to dissolve. Calcium citratehas less calcium per tablet, but can be taken with or without food.

2. The dose and distribution

The reference value is 800 mg per day, in total. Doses above 500 mg at onceare less efficiently absorbed, so the intake is usually spread throughout the day.

3. Alone or with vitamins D and K

Many formulas include vitamin D, which contributes to the normal absorption and utilisation of calcium, and vitamin K, which contributes to the maintenance of normal bones. There are also combinations with magnesium and potassium.

4. Interactions

Calcium reduces the absorption of iron and zinc and some medications, such as levothyroxine and certain antibiotics: space out your doses by a few hours. If you have kidney disease or a history of stones, speak to your doctor before taking supplements.

Perguntas frequentes
