This product provides additional acidity to the stomach because Betaine HCL releases hydrochloric acid upon ingestion, the same acid that is naturally produced by the stomach. These tablets are designed to dissolve in the stomach, where acidity is needed.

As we age, our natural production of hydrochloric acid may decrease, but its importance in breaking down food in the intestine remains unchanged. Hydrochloric acid has several different functions; for example, it sterilizes ingested food and activates a powerful enzyme called pepsin that breaks down proteins, as well as allowing the extraction of vitamin B12 from food.
