L-Tyrosine is one of the non-essential amino acids because it can be formed by our body from the essential amino acid phenylalanine.
In certain metabolic situations, the liver's ability to convert L-phenylalanine to L-tyrosine may be impaired. A supply of L-tyrosine is then required.
The amino acid L-tyrosine serves the body as a precursor to the hormones and neurotransmitters dopamine, norepinephrine, and adrenaline.
Poultry, fish, dairy products and legumes are particularly high in L-tyrosine.
